Harvest
The grapes for the 2006 Grand Reserve Meritage were harvested from the select vineyards of Bethune, Pohorly, Heron Pond, and Brezecka in the Niagara Peninsula from October 10th and November 6th at between 20.5º and 22.5º Brix.

Winemaking
This wine was left on the skins for fifteen days and fermented with selected yeasts. It underwent 100% malolactic fermentation in oak, and was 100% barrel aged for seventeen months in primarily French oak, and to a lesser degree, American oak.

Winemaker's Notes
This vintage is a blend of Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (27%), and Cabernet Franc (18%), three of the classic Bordeaux varietals. Deep garnet in colour, the Meritage has a nose dominated by aromas of black currant, ripe raspberries and plums underscored with vanilla, cedar and spicy black pepper. The intense fruit flavours of berries, chocolate, coffee and cloves intricately fold with the firm leather tannins providing an elegant prolonged finish.

Food Pairings
An exceptional wine, it is the ideal accompaniment to beef tenderloin in peppercorn sauce, grilled rack of lamb, stuffed loin of pork or hardy aged cheeses.

* Silver Medal (Best of Class), International Wine & Spirit Competition, London, UK
